The 3/5 Method
Sometimes you need a glimpse of the big picture. Deep focused study of the Bible is great for facing the challenge of daily life but enlightenment needs context. May I suggest that you read through the Bible quickly just as you might read any other book? Choose an easier to understand translation or even a paraphrase, like The Message or The Good News Bible. The goal is to read through the entire Bible for enjoyment, as you would read any other book.
If you read three chapters every day and five on Sundays, you’ll read the entire Bible in a year. Skim some sections, perhaps the genealogies. The goal is an overview, a general sense of the complete Bible.
You may want to keep paper and pencil handy. Write down questions or thoughts that pop into your mind for pondering at a later date.
You’ll gain a “general feel” for the individual books of the Bible and the authors. This exercise has helped me answer the question, “Where is that verse that says….?” My first thought is sounds like the book of….” (Now with the internet, I can do a search but I like to test my brain power first!)
The Bible is the best selling book of all time. The Good Book has sold billions of copies. Enjoy the greatest book everl
